On Monday, February 22nd, the Classroom of the Future Foundation’s (CFF) TeamRED Collaborative Group visited Coronado Middle School (CMS) to learn about their 1:1 efforts and open educational resources (OER) implementation in english, science, and math classrooms.
The TeamRED Collaborative Group consists of seven school districts in San Diego County, all integrating technology into their district in a systemic way, with the goal of significantly improving student learning.
The visit to CMS began with an introduction and presentation, addressing the following topics and questions:
- Overview of CMS efforts
- How do you utilize OER materials?
- Is OER used independently or is it integrated with other resources to deliver instruction?
- How do teachers locate appropriate OER materials and how do they evaluate them to support new Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS)?
- Demonstration of their Learning Management System, Haiku Learning
- What type of learning environment is necessary to be able to fully utilize OER materials?
- Do all teachers of a particular grade level or subject area share the OER materials and lessons?

After the initial presentation in the CMS library, TeamRED
had the opportunity to visit five different classrooms, including english, science, and math. It was wonderful to see students highly engaged, utilizing their devices to learn each subject through OER materials at their own pace. Following the classroom observation, TeamRED concluded the visit by gathering in the library to debrief. A panel of CMS teachers from the classrooms we visited provided further background on the lessons learned with moving to 1:1 and implementing OER.

informative for our TeamRED members. This visit
