Although educational technology best practices have a significant positive impact, they are not always widely and consistently applied. According to the national ProjectRED study, 99 out of 100 schools fall short of a successful technology implementation. Failure to implement technology effectively inhibits a school district’s ability to engage students in STEM. With employment in STEM jobs in our country expected to grow to more than 9 million by 2022, it’s critically important that we are preparing San Diego students to pursue these fields, particularly female and minority students. In order for San Diego to remain a leader in the STEM economy, it’s critical that we provide support to educators on effective technology implementation.
About STEM Workshop Series
In 2017, the Classroom of the Future Foundation (CFF) will host in-depth workshops for educators from across San Diego County to instruct them on how to effectively use technology to teach STEM to students. .
The target audience for the workshops will vary based on the topic, but include Superintendents, top district administrators, principals, and STEM teachers. All K-12 educators are welcome to participate. These workshops are free of charge.
Each workshop will include a presentation on the material, expert guest speakers, collaborative peer-to-peer learning discussions, reflection, and practice demonstrations around adopting this material in the STEM classroom.
Facilitated by USD
CFF will partner with the University of San Diego’s Institute for Entrepreneurship in Education (IEE) to facilitate these workshops.

About ProjectRED
The STEM Workshop Series utilizes the nationally recognized Project RED approach, which is focused on properly implemented education technology and continuous access to a computing device for each student.
In 2010, Project RED conducted the first large-scale national study of 1000 schools to identify and prioritize over 100 factors that make some U.S. K-12 technology implementations perform dramatically better than others. This led to the Technology Factor report and a set of tools including the 1500 line item RED Design Gantt chart. These resources outline the steps a district must take to ensure success.
Thank You
Special thanks to the Verizon Foundation and SDG&E for their support of the TeamRED Workshop Series, and for their committment to educator professional development, as well as STEM engagement in San Diego public school classrooms.
