Week four of the Classroom of the Future Foundation’s (CFF) Career Discovery Cybersecurity Experience was recently completed before the Thanksgiving holiday. During this week, students at the Community Day School (CDS) in Sweetwater Union High School District and Health Sciences High & Middle College (HSHMC) learned about the present day cybersecurity industry and how to get there from an industry expert, Joe Gombos, Malware Analyst at Cylance Inc.

We have a huge need for people who are passionate about cybersecurity. And the only way we can get that is to stimulate interest when students are very young.” – Joe Gombos, Malware Analyst, Cylance Inc.

Joe went to both school sites and provided students with an understanding of what cybersecurity professionals do and what skills they need. Students practiced breaking codes and learned about defensive hacking techniques. Check it out:

Prior to Joe’s visit, students completed two weeks of classroom work using Journeys, in which they did a strengths assessment, explored various career pathways, and drilled down into the cybersecurity pathway. In addition, students learned about the history of information security through the lens of the USS Midway Museum.

This would be a pretty cool job to have.” – Student

I would like to go down this path, and see where it leads.” – Student

In the final week of the program, students will present their cybersecurity projects to industry experts using the Nepris platform.
