The Third Annual College & Career Pathways Summit will be held on Tuesday, September 25th from 8:30am-2:00pm at National University’s Spectrum Center. The summit is presented by the Classroom of the Future Foundation (CFF) and the San Diego County Office of Education.

Since CFF’s establishment in 1997, preparing students to be our future workforce has always been central to the identity of our organization. With the understanding that almost a third of our students nationwide leave high school without the skills necessary to succeed in college or the workforce and that 43,000 young adults in San Diego are disconnected, CFF believes it’s critical to expand college and career pathway opportunities for all San Diego students.

For this reason, we are convening the Third Annual College & Career Pathways Summit and bringing education, business, and community leaders in our region together again for the next chapter of this important movement.

The summit will feature a keynote presentation by Dr. Charles Steinberg, President of the Pawtucket Red Sox (Boston Red Sox Triple-A affiliate). Dr. Steinberg served in the front office for the San Diego Padres during the 1998 National League Championship season and was instrumental in the campaign to build PETCO Park. His 40+ year career in Major League Baseball started with an internship with the Baltimore Orioles, which changed the trajectory of his life. Dr. Steinberg’s keynote will address the importance of work-based learning experiences for all students. The summit will also include an amazing group of panelists, breakout session presenters, and lots of networking.

The learning objectives of the summit are:

  • To understand how the expansion of career pathways is a means for equity in education
  • To understand the latest professional, best practice research on career pathways and work-based learning opportunities in classrooms today, with an emphasis on the changes needed to daily instruction
  • To understand how we can achieve collective social impact and provide every learner with a relevant experience to be future ready
The summit will feature two networking receptions over breakfast and lunch. The select guest list of approximately 200+ people will include San Diego County’s top Superintendents and school district officials, representatives from the San Diego County Office of Education, principals and CTE teachers from across the County, leaders from local universities, as well as key businesses in the education arena.
