YOUR FUTURE HASN’T BEEN WRITTEN YET: JOIN THE 2ND ANNUAL CAREER PATHWAYS SUMMIT ON SEPTEMBER 19, 2017

By: Jennifer Valente, CFF Marketing Committee Volunteer

What steps would you take to start and discover your career journey if you were given a second chance? Picture for a moment that you’re Marty McFly, mistakenly sent on a journey to the past in a plutonium-powered DeLorean time machine invented by an eccentric scientist, Doc Brown. Luckily, you’re not in danger of erasing yourself from existence by rewriting history. Rather, you’re encouraged to find a way ‘Back to the Future’ using the knowledge you’ve accumulated over a lifetime. The clock is ticking, but you have an advantage. For example, can you remember a time in your career when you wanted to explore a new position, but you didn’t have the skill set to apply for it? If the younger version of yourself had access to the information that you have now, what would you do to better align your career path with your passion?

On September 19, 2017, Classroom of the Future Foundation (CFF) will hold its second annual Career Pathways Summit, “Discover Your Journey” at National University’s Spectrum Center from 8:00am – 2:00pm. This event brings together more than 150 educators and business leaders, including San Diego County’s top Superintendents and school district officials, representatives from the San Diego County Office of Education, principals and CTE teachers from across the county, leaders from local universities, as well as key businesses in the education arena. The goal is to explore how we can collectively prepare our students for the jobs of the future and build connections that increase the number of work-based learning opportunities available to students.

“By working together more closely, San Diego’s education and business communities have made significant progress towards expanding career pathways for our students and preparing them to be our future workforce,” said James Wright, Chief Executive Officer of the Classroom of the Future Foundation. “If we want our economy to be strong and our workforce to be skilled we must continue to invest in work-based learning that inspires local students to pursue opportunities in priority sectors like clean tech and information technology. This is what the second annual Career Pathways Summit is all about and I encourage the public to attend.”

By attending the event, your company will have an opportunity to connect with top leadership from the San Diego County Office of Education (SDCOE), school district Superintendents, and educators from across San Diego County. Those that sponsor the summit will have the opportunity to promote their company and industry career pathway, as well as receive highly-visible recognition before the event, at the event, and in post-event outreach.

The summit will include a keynote presentation on the latest career pathways research and its impact locally as told by San Diego County students, remarks by Dr. Michael Cunningham, Chancellor of National University, and Dr. Paul Gothold, new Superintendent of Schools for the San Diego County Office of Education, as well as an amazing group of panelists and breakout session presenters. There will be two networking receptions over breakfast and lunch.

You might not be able to turn back time, but it’s never too late to make a difference. Doc once said, “Your future hasn’t been written yet. No one’s has. Your future is whatever you make it. So make it a good one.”
